Driving the Beat: How the Mustang Mach-E Inspired Matthew Dear’s “New Breed”
The all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E sounds like something straight out of sci-fi—so much so that it inspired Detroit-based electronic artist Matthew Dear to turn its sound into music.
Ford sound designers, drawing from classic ‘80s sci-fi films, collaborated with Ozone Sound to create the futuristic electronic tones that play inside and outside the Mustang Mach-E while in motion.
That caught the attention of Dear, a founding member of the renowned electronic label Ghostly International. Using the car’s synth-heavy sounds, he crafted "New Breed", an electronic track that embodies the Mach-E’s spirit.
“The idea of remixing the Mach-E’s sounds immediately intrigued me—I’ve always been a ‘sound tinkerer,’” said Dear. “Once I heard Ford’s digital propulsion sounds, I was sold. They were cooler than I expected—cinematic, sci-fi, and musically rich. Creating New Breed was a fresh experience, and like the car, the song takes listeners on a voyage.”
